On July 30, 1909, Eugène Schueller officially founded the 'Société Française de Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux', which translates to 'French Society of Harmless Hair Dyes'. The very name of the company explicitly articulated its core mission and primary differentiator: to provide scientifically superior and, crucially, safe hair coloring solutions, directly addressing the major shortcomings of existing products. This formal incorporation, with an initial capital of 800 francs, marked the official genesis of what would, through a slight evolution of its initial product name, become L'Oréal.
